Ottawa-based TrueContext, a developer of software for mobile business forms, has opened a Human Factors Lab aimed at improving the usability of mobile business software.

The company has hired Mitch Brisebois as chief scientist. Mr. Brisebois has two decades of experience in similar roles with Provance Technologies and Nortel Networks. He also holds 17 U.S. patents relating to usability innovations for software, wireless and workflow products.

"The Human Factors Lab as a critical driver for future growth of this company," says TrueContext CEO Jeff Lindauer. "We already know that usability has a tremendous impact on whether or not mobile deployments are a success, so we want to make that experience as seamless and efficient as possible."

TrueContext software is used by mobile workers in areas such as field services and support, inspection and reporting, and sales.

The lab will aim to make mobile forms and devices more user-friendly by holding focus groups to validate user requirements and conducting usability testing. It will also publish articles and design guides on innovative user interface solutions based on its research.
