Networks by Wireless Will Deploy DragonWave's AirPair Flex to Cost-Effectively Roll Out Broadband IP Network for South Wales Fire and Rescue
DragonWave Inc a
leading global supplier of next-generation
wireless networks, today announced that Networks
by Wireless, it’s premier partner in the United
Kingdom, has deployed DragonWave’s AirPair Flex
product to provide a private broadband network
infrastructure for the South Wales Fire & Rescue
Service (SWF&R). The project will connect more
than 50 locations together within the South
Wales region and transport converged IP Voice,
Data and Video traffic between fire stations.
The SWF&R network consists of 18 GHz, 23 GHz and
26 GHz licensed AirPair Flex links each with 10
Mbps of native Ethernet capacity. The AirPair
solution enables the flexibility to increase
bandwidth via software as SWF&R introduce new
services such as IP Telephony to the network.
“A live demonstration of the AirPair product at
Networks by Wireless R& D facilities clearly
demonstrated that aggregated bandwidth between
ourselves, Rhondda Cynon Taf and Monmouthshire
councils was achievable without compromising the
integrity and security of our IP
communications,” said Chris Williams, I.C.T.
Strategic Manager, SWF&R. “Without Networks by
Wireless’s unique expertise and professional
services and DragonWave’s product we would never
have been able to proceed with such a beneficial
and unique solution.”
“This is another example of the expansion of
broadband infrastructure and services in Wales,”
said Sir Terence Matthews, a DragonWave Board
Member. “Enterprises and Governments alike are
taking advantage of the migration to IP and
DragonWave is at the forefront in this exciting
area.”
With an area covering more than 1,000 square
miles and a population of just over 1.4 million,
South Wales is one of the largest Fire and
Rescue Services in the UK. Its 50 fire stations
are staffed by around 1,400 full-time and
retained firefighters, who respond to more than
60,000 emergency calls every year.
“The SWF&R network has been optimized for both
current and future customer requirements, the
low entry cost and high scalability and ultra
low latency of the AirPair Flex was extremely
important “said Keith Bartlett, Business
Development Director of Networks by Wireless.
“The DragonWave solution has given us a
dependable pipe that can be cost-effectively
expanded as the capacity needs grow. “
The DragonWave solution is a flexible bandwidth
radio platform which can scale from 10 to 500
Mbps in 10 Mbps increments providing scalable,
ultra-low latency, wire-speed native Ethernet
connectivity. Available in both full outdoor and
indoor/outdoor configurations, AirPair can be
installed to match any customer requirement
providing a highly reliable platform enabling
99.999% service availability. The AirPair
product operates within both licensed and
unlicensed radio frequencies of 11-to-26-GHz
range, ensuring interference-free performance
for customers' traffic.
