SpotCell product extends coverage into hard-to-reach areas such as parking garages

SCARBOROUGH, ON, Oct. 6 /CNW/ - TELUS Mobility today announced a partnership with Spotwave Wireless Inc. that will allow businesses and landlords to greatly enhance coverage for TELUS Mobility PCS, 1X and Mike wireless voice and data services in hard-to-reach areas of buildings such as parking garages and basements.

TELUS Mobility has signed a multi-year agreement to distribute SpotCell in-building repeaters from Spotwave, a wireless technology company specializing in solving targeted in-building reception problems, particularly in locations smaller than 10,000 square metres. TELUS Mobility is offering these easy-to-install coverage enhancements through its sales channels across Canada to clients who find that the carrier-funded public network is not sufficient for their custom needs.

"Our unique partnership with Spotwave, a company with proven expertise in bringing coverage to the difficult in-building scenarios, reinforces TELUS Mobility's commitment to providing superior client service in even the most challenging building environments," said Robert Blumenthal, TELUS Mobility's Vice President of Products and Services. "Some of our clients have demands for wireless service not covered by our public network. For example, some require coverage in basements, parking garages and remote areas. Affordable and easy-to-manage SpotCells are an ideal solution for them."

Wireless telephone services from all carriers can be reduced in certain building areas because thick concrete, glass and steel structures can impede wireless signals. SpotCell repeaters are "out-of-the-box" coverage solutions that can be quickly deployed to boost wireless coverage significantly in these previously inaccessible indoor areas.

"Safety of our employees in isolated work areas was of paramount importance to Albian in our requirement for an in-building coverage solution," said Ian Parkinson, Albian Sands Energy. "The cost of installation was insignificant compared to the safety issue. It remains insignificant when we compare it to our 'nuisance' reduction and the gain we get from personnel having onsite communication."

"TELUS Mobility is the first wireless carrier to fully embrace the network deployment of SpotCell products through their national distribution network," said Shane Young, President & CEO of Spotwave Wireless Inc. "TELUS Mobility did exhaustive testing to verify the performance and robustness of our patented technology. The results provided them with the confidence to rely on Spotwave for their in-building coverage enhancement solution."
